CVC Well Represented on AVCA All-Region Team

2021 NVA/AVCA DIVISION III ALL-REGION TEAMS

The Continental Volleyball Conference was well-represented on the 2021 All-Region team as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Half of the 14 member All-East team came from the CVC. Kean University led the way with three selections while Southern Virginia Univeristy had two representatives and Juniata College and Rutgers University-Newark each had one player. 

Ian Capp, Jared Ray, and Jake Milnazik from Kean were all selected as All-Region members. Capp earns his first All-Region selection after totaling 118 assists, 78 points, 45 kills, 43 digs, 27 aces and 10 blocks over six matches. The Mechanicsburg, Pa. native averaged 5.62 assists per set, 3.71 points per set, 2.14 kills per set, 2.05 digs per set, 1.29 aces per set, 0.48 blocks per set and a .229 hitting percentage over 21 sets played. Ray earns his second straight All-Region selection after totaling 213.5 points, 194 kills, 69 digs and 20 blocks over 12 matches. The Phoenixville, Pa. averaged 5.47 points per set, 4.97 kills per set, 1.77 digs per set, 0.51 blocks per set and a .392 hitting percentage over 39 sets played. Milnazik earns his first All-Region selection after totaling 88.0 points, 74 kills, 22 digs and 12 blocks over six matches. The Warminster, Pa. native averaged 4.19 points per set, 3.52 kills per set, 1.05 digs per set, 0.57 blocks per set and a .288 hitting percentage over 21 sets played.

Samuel Candland and Nahuel Recabarren were selections from CVC Champion Southern Virginia. Candland, a sophomore, finished with 129 kills this season, averaging 2.87 per set, while hitting .288. He totaled 27 aces this season and added 65 digs and 14 total blocks, accounting for 163 total points. Recabarren, a senior, led the Knights with 171 kills, averaging 4.07 per set, and hitting .295 on the year. He recorded 53 digs and 25 total blocks for 194 total points. 

Juniata's Kevin Duffy makes his second appearance on the East All-Region team after another stellar season that saw him named CVC Player of the Year. He is currently 1st in the country in hitting percentage and second in the country in blocks per set. In the CVC, he led the conference in hitting percentage  (.479), solo blocks (14), block assists (51), total blocks (65), and blocks per set (1.23). He was third in the CVC in total kills (139) and fourth in points (194). In addition the Eagles Reese Ganter snagged his second freshman honors after being named Continental Volleyball Conference Rookie of the Year honors earlier in the week. He made the all-conference second team after he led the conference in assists (491), was second in assists per set (8.77),  eighth in digs (77), and 13th in total blocks (23). His 8.77 assists per set ranks 22nd nationally. 

Rutgers-Newarks' Andrew Zaleck adds All-Region honors to his list of award accomplishments. Zaleck powered the Scarlet Raiders' offense this season, leading the team with 192 kills including a career-high 28 kills against New Jersey City Univeristy to start the year. He hit .289 for the year and added 19 service aces to go along with 30 blocks, leading the team with 228 points. Las season Zaleck was named the AVCA Division III Newcomer of the Year and NVA/AVCA Division III Second Team All-American and earned First Team All-Conference honors from the CVC this season.
